Mother's Day Tea Highlights School Events

Birmingham Public Schools will be holding a number of fun events for the week of May 15-19.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — Next week will be a busy one for Birmingham Public Schools. Here’s a quick rundown of events starting on Monday, May 15:

MOTHER’S DAY TEA: Students at Greenfield Elementary School will host a Mother’s Day Tea for their mothers on Monday, May 15. Students will sing and present handmade gifts to their mothers.

HOLOCAUST/DSO PRESENTATION: Seaholm High School students will visit the Holocaust Memorial Center of Farmington Hills for a special performance by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The performance will be followed by a presentation by the Holocaust Memorial Center. The music that will be performed was composed by victims of the Holocaust and the presentation that will follow will offer additional background and details. There will be time for questions and answers following the presentation.

DISTRICT ART SHOW: Birmingham Public Schools will highlight student artwork from students throughout the district during the District Art Show on Tuesday, May 16. Art teachers will be on hand to meet parents and families as students show off their artistic talents.

KINDERGARTEN VISIT: Incoming kindergarten students and their parents are invited to a Kindergarten Visit on Thursday, May 18. Parents will meet separately and hear from the kindergarten staff while the incoming kindergarteners will meet with bus drivers for a short bus ride. Barnie the Bus will be on hand to learn more about the bus. Students will also stay for a story.

MUFFINS WITH MOM: Greenfield Elementary School will host a Muffins with Mom event that will include a breakfast treat and a tour of the artwork in the hallways.

FIELD DAY: Students at Quarton Elementary School will participate in their annual Field Day event on Friday, May 19. The event includes a Tug-o-War Tournament.

TRANSITION DAY: Students in the Birmingham Public Schools headed to Berkshire Middle School in the fall are invited to visit the middle school to get familiar with the surroundings. They will learn about their new school, meet teachers, and experience lunchtime.

EMPTY BOWLS: Quarton Elementary School invites guests to view student artwork and ceramic bowls. Students created the ceramic bowls to support the Empty Bowls project. Bowls will be available for a suggested $10 donation, which will support the Empty Bowls charity.

FAMILY TRUCK EVENT: Get up close and personal with a variety of trucks! Birmingham Youth Assistance presents the Touch-A-Truck event at Bingham Farms Elementary School. Guests are invited to attend this unique event. A minimum donation of $5 per car is suggested.
