Parking Gate Arms Don't Open, Driver Leaves Anyway: Police

BIRMINGHAM, MI – A frustrated motorist deliberately rammed his vehicle through the parking gate arms at the Pierce Street Parking Structure last week after an electronic parking pass was rejected, police said.

The incident occurred on Friday, May 13, a day after police had been called to the same parking garage to investigate a minor traffic accident involving a 67-year-old Gaylord man, who Birmingham police arrested on drunken driving charges, The Birmingham Eccentric reports.

Birmingham’s five public parking garages offer to hours of free parking, but the ticket didn’t work because his wife had used it moments earlier to exit the structure, police said.
