Police Find Several Vehicles Recently Stolen from Birmingham

The Birmingham Police Department reiterated the importance of locking vehicles while they continue to investigate last week's thefts.

The Birmingham Police Department located three of the four vehicles stolen last week from the Yorkshire Street area, but is still seeking information about possible suspects.

Residents reported six auto thefts and vehicle burglaries overnight between May 28 and May 29 in the same neighborhood but no suspect information was available. The vehicles were parked in driveways in the 1200, 1700, 2100 and 2700 blocks of Yorkshire Street, the 2500 block of Dorchester and 800 block of Rivenoak, reports said. And the majority were unlocked — including some with keys inside — prompting the department to issue an alert Friday that urged residents to be more mindful.

Two of the stolen vehicles were found early this week in Detroit, and one was
found in Highland Park, according to a news release. Officers used evidence from the first recovered vehicle to locate the second vehicle, but further details were unavailable. Investigators said they are developing suspects based on other evidence found inside the vehicles but would not elaborate.

The department encourages residents to remove keys and valuables
from their vehicles, and to lock their doors. Anyone with information is asked to call Mike Albrecht at (248) 530-1762 or e-mail birminghampolice@bhamgov.org.
