Seaholm High Hosts Gubernatorial Forum Monday
At least four candidates for governor will be in attendance for the forum, which will start at about 8 a.m.
BIRMINGHAM, MI — At least four gubernatorial candidates will participate in the Birmingham Public Schools political leader forum on Monday starting at 8 a.m. Seaholm High School. Michigan State Senator Patrick Colbeck, a Canton Republican, is the highest profile candidate scheduled to attend. A ceremony to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will be held prior to the candidate’s forum.
“This will be an excellent opportunity for students and the public to learn about our current and future political leaders and give solemn tribute to 9/11,” said Judge Michael Warren, the moderator of the forum. "At the forum, we discuss what unites us as Americans, and how what unites us informs policy-making.”

Republicans Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and Attorney General Bill Schuette are expected to join the race for the governor and are seen as the main contenders, according to political pundits. State Sen. Gretchen Whitmer appears to have the early lead on the Democrat’s side, although Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel could challenge if he joins the race.

Patriot Week is anchored by the key dates of the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks and the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on September 17 (Constitution Day).
“This dialogue will focus on the underlying foundations and history of the country, and how they can help guide us to a better future,” said Warren. “It will delve into the principles and historical context of current issues and policy disputes. This is intended to be a very unique - and desperately needed dialogue."
