Sons Sue Carolina Hurricanes Owner Peter Karmanos for $105M
The infamous local businessman is facing a lawsuit that alleges he didn't repay family money he borrowed, in part, to fund his NHL team.

A notorious area businessman could be on the hook for $105 million if he loses legal fight against his adult sons, who have accused him of defaulting on a loan he reportedly used to fund a hockey team, among other ventures.
The lawsuit against 73-year-old Peter Karmanos, Jr., was filed last week by a stock partnership that his three sons allege was set up to benefit them after his first wife, the namesake for a well-regarded Michigan cancer center, died from cancer in 1989, reports the Detroit Free Press.
The trio of sons contend that Karmanos drew from the account to support the NHL hockey team he owns, the Carolina Hurricanes.

"His son, Jason Karmanos, held the job of assistant general manager for the Hurricanes until 2013, when the team fired him," according to the Detroit Free Press article. "'This is a family matter,' his father said in a statement at the time of the firing."
Karmanos. co-founder of Compuware Corporation, is accused of stopping his payments a few years ago on a $101 million promissory note. The lawsuit claims that $105.6 million in principal and interest is necessary to make it right.
