U.S. Rep. Dave Trott Won't Seek Re-Election In 2018
Rep. Dave Trott, a Birmingham Republican, said he wants to spend more time with family and work in the private sector.

BIRMINGHAM, MI — U.S. Rep. Dave Trott, a Birmingham Republican, will not seek re-election this fall. He made the announcement Monday, citing a desire to spend more time with his family and return the private sector where he is an attorney.
“It has been an extraordinary privilege to serve the people of Southeast Michigan in Congress,” Trott said in a statement. “Representing the 11th District has been an honor, but I have decided not to seek re-election in 2018.”
Trott is nearing the end of his second term. He beat Milford’s Kerry Bentivolio by a landslide margin of 33 percent in the 2014 Republican primary.

“Over the next 16 months, I plan to continue serving the people I represent, working hard to advance real solutions for the American people, and to continue top-notch constituent service.”
It’s unclear what Republican(s) may step forward to run his place. Thus far, two Democrats have joined the 11th District race: Haley Stevens, who worked in President Barack Obama’s administration, and Fayrouz Saad, Detroit's former director of immigration affairs, the Detroit News reported.
