Bloomfield Girls Lacrosse Continues Quest to State Finals

The Bloomfield Girls Lacrosse team will face Ann Arbor Pioneer in the Division 1 state semi-final game tonight at 7 p.m. at Hartland High School.

The Bloomfield Girls Lacrosse team continues their march toward this weekend's state finals tonight with another tough matchup against Ann Arbor Pioneer High School at 7 p.m. in Hartland.

But tough pairings are nothing new for this veteran team. Already during this playoff, the team has already defeated defending state champions Birmingham Unified, Birmingham Marian, and Troy High School, which were all ranked in the top-10 teams in the state at the time.

"We could not be more proud of our girls and all that they've accomplished, and we were able to win what I believe is the toughest region in the state, Coach Andy Reed said.

Led by senior Margaret Metzger and Maddie Monahan, who are both 1st Team All-State selections, and juniors Emma Mucci and Maria D'Angelo (named 2nd Team All-State) the girls are in a great position to clinch a state title in the final year of both Andover and Lahser high schools, set to merge next fall.

"I think leadership and cohesiveness have been big," Reed said of the team's deep playoff run. "This is a very tight group - a lot of girls having played together since 5th/6th grade, and more than anything, we have tremendous depth, with talent up and down our lineup."

That talent will be challenged tonight against Pioneer, which claimed their regional crown last week.

"Pioneer is an explosive team. Mercedes Reyes and Sam Zwolan are All State players," Reed said. "Our top priority as always will be defending and ball possession"
