Bloomfield Resident Duped by Satellite Television Scam

The Bloomfield Township Police Department warns residents to be mindful of callers seeking payment from pre-paid credit cards.

Bloomfield Township

A resident in the 1000 block of Threadneedle told Bloomfield Township police officers he was a victim of phone scam perpetrated by someone posing to be a satellite service provider. The man visited the police department on April 2 and said he agreed to pay more than $300 for a new service package that included 6 months free television service.

The provider insisted the victim use a pre-paid credit card to make the lump-sum payment, and said that they would then begin providing the service, according to reports. Authorities reminded residents to be suspicious of unsolicited calls, and those that demand payment from a pre-paid credit card, in particular.
