Burglary at Subway; Fraud Reported in Bloomfield Township

The Bloomfield Township Police Department provided the following information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department are investigating a burglary at the Subway in the Bloomfield Commons Shopping Center.

Employees called police upon finding the cash register drawer on the floor when they opened the business on Aug. 12, reports said. Officers determined the door was pried open. Once inside, the suspect or suspects found the safe in the store, pried it open, and took an undisclosed amount of cash.  No suspect information was available.

Fraudulent purchases

Employees with Behler-Young Co., a HVAC/R distributor, called police on Aug. 8 to report that thieves posing as customers stole about $12,000 worth of equipment this month, reports said.

The employees said that on two different occasions, two different people posing as workers for a well-known local customer entered their distribution center at 1501 Telegraph Rd. and purchased and signed for merchandise that they then left with. The employees later learned that the men did not work for any of the company's customers, and that the purchases of the HVAC, refrigeration and plumbing equipment was fraud.

No specific physical descriptions of the men were immediately available.
