Busy Ballot in Bloomfield Hills for Nov. 5 Election

Four candidates will seek three spots on the Bloomfield Hills City Commission in November.

Tuesday's filing deadline for the Nov. 5 general election was rather uneventful Bloomfield Hills, but that doesn't mean there will be less on the ballot.

Four candidates filed nominating petitions for the three open seats on the Bloomfield Hills City Commission, according to the Oakland County Clerk's Office.

Charter Changes?

The Nov. 5 ballot will also have four proposals to amend the City Charter.

Proposition A: To signify that city commissions are voted in for two-year terms  at the odd-year November election, beginning this fall. Commissioners passed a resolution earlier this year shifting the dates from annual May elections.

Proposition B: Stipulates an organizational meeting for elected commissioners where they decide who sits as mayor and mayor pro-tem, should be moved the first Monday following the vote to a regularly scheduled meeting in November.

Proposition C: Prohibits city commissioners from voting for any contract or expenditure if he or she is financially interested in the proceeds of the contract or expenditure.

Proposition D: Changes the due date of the annual budget from May 10 to the second Tuesday in May.
