Costumed Runners Finish Jingle Bell Run For Arthritis Foundation in Bloomfield

Hundreds helped raise more than $60,000 to help Arthritis Foundation programs and research.

The Arthritis Foundation reported that 800 people braved Saturday's snow storm in Bloomfield Township to help raise significant funding and awareness for arthritis research at the 2013 Jingle Bell Run.

The crowd at Birmingham Covington School in Bloomfield Township participated in a competitively timed 5K run/walk with 10K option, a “Snowman Shuffle” fun-run for children, and a post-event party with awards for top finishers. Attendees kept things festive by dressing in their favorite holiday-costumes and tying jingle bells to their shoes.

Foundation officials said more than $60,000 was raised to support Arthritis Foundation programs, services and research for the nation’s leading cause of disability.

More than 50 million Americans have arthritis including 2.3 million adults and 10,300 children in Michigan.

The Arthritis Foundation also hosted a similar run earlier this month at Northville Downs to help 5-year-old Zach Fradkin, of Dearborn, who was diagnosed at 18 months old with juvenile arthritis.
