Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Martin Luther King Jr. would have celebrated his 85th birthday Monday had he lived to 2014. To honor the civil rights leader and iconic American, the Bloomfield Hills Schools and several other local schools will closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as will several municipal buildings and offices. Learn about the power of goals and setting strategies for success at a Professional Edge workshop hosted by the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce at 9 a.m. Jan. 23. Speaker Matt De La Cruz of The Winning Minds Group will share tips on: building a better you and work/life balance; overcoming the five most common objections; and three rules for building a value proposition at the Birmingham Public Schools Administration Building,31301 Evergreen Rd., Beverly Hills, next to Groves High School. Registration is $10 for members and $20 for non-members.
Emerging Drug Trends Summit
The Birmingham Bloomfield Community Coalition will host a community symposium on emerging drug trends from 8-11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 1800 West Maple, in Birmingham.Ken Krygel, a drug and alcohol recognition expert and instructor at Macomb Community College Criminal Justice Training Center will discuss drug trends in the metro Detroit area. Feeling Groovy at the Library
Join the community to celebrate 50 years of the Bloomfield Township Library with a series of events starting this Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. Family-friendly activities including face painting, learning the twist and even a little 1960s karaoke to honor the library's opening in 1964 are planned.
