Bloomfield's Miller Signs With Oilers, Stick Headed to Hall of Fame

The NCAA championship was just the beginning of special honors for Bloomfield's Andrew Miller, who may represent Bloomfield, Cranbrook and Yale in the Hockey Hall of Fame

Cranbrook hockey fans still reveling in the excitement of former Crane Andrew Miller's stellar performance in the NCAA Frozen Four championships have more to celebrate this weekend.

Miller (class of '07) signed a contract earlier this week with the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, the school reported Friday. The achievement, unexpected until Miller lead the Yale Bulldogs on their historic, underdog run to the national title, caps an unbelievable season. Along with the national title, the senior captain set a school record in assists, earned Most Outstanding Player honors during the NCAA Frozen Four, and a spot as a CCM Hockey Division 1 All-American.

Barring any delays caused by this week's tragedies in the Boston area, Miller and his Yale teammates were scheduled to be honored on the field at historic Fenway Park Saturday before the Boston Red Sox take on the Kansas City Royals, school officials said.

The standout forward who helped Cranbrook to consecutive state titles in 2006-07, is expected to be at prospect camp July 2, the Edmonton Journal reported. He will then join rookie camp and the main team camp, and has been told he’ll likely start in the American League next fall.

Though his professional career is just about to start, the 24-year-old forward/center could be a part of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Cranbrook officials said historians with the treasured museum in Toronto recently contacted Miller and requested to add his stick to their collegiate collection.
