UPDATED: Storm Leaves Hundreds Without Power in Bloomfield Area

Updated 8 p.m.: Power restored at West Hills Middle School. School's on tomorrow!

Updated 4 p.m.: Hundreds of additional Bloomfield-area residents reported losing power throughout a windy Monday, according to DTE. The largest new affected area appears to be around Quarton Lake and south of Maple Road. Nearly 300 customers between Lahser and Covington roads also lost power, as did more than 400 near Telegraph and 14 Mile roads. No restoration time was immediately available. 

Updated 10:15 a.m.: Today's scheduled tryouts for Bloomfield Hills High School bowling team are canceled due to a power outage at 300 Bowl. Tryouts will begin Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

Updated 9 a.m: Major traffic delays reported on Telegraph and Lahser roads this morning. Wires down across Telegraph near 13 Mile Road in Bingham Farms has traffic stalled from Quarton.


Updated 7 a.m.: Power is out at West Hills Middle School, no school today.

The high winds and strong thunderstorms that blew through southeast Michigan and the Midwest Sunday night knocked out power to more than 500 Bloomfield-area residents, according to DTE. 

The majority of affected customers appear to be in the Wabeek subdivision, between Wabeek Lake Drive South and Franklin Road, just south of Long Lake Road in Bloomfield Township, according to the DTE outage map. 

At least 120 other customers between the Birmingham and Bloomfield Hills border are also in the dark, and even more — roughly 800 — are without power on the Bloomfield-West Bloomfield border. The storm knocked out power there between 6:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., and may not be restored until late Monday in most areas. No estimated restoration time was reported for some spots still by 5 a.m. Monday.  

Early Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a high wind warning in effect from 5 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday as a cold front moved through the area with winds gusts in excess of 55 miles per hour.

More than 200,000 customers throughout DTE Energy’s territory in southeast Michigan lost service in the storm.

Today's forecast calls for more wind and isolated light snow showers after 11 am. Skies will remain mostly cloudy all day with a high temperature of about 43 degrees before noon,according to the NWS. Temperatures will drop into the 30s during the afternoon with a 20 percent chance of snow, and continue to drop into the high 20s overnight.
