Thief Tampers With Detroit Tigers Kids Club Package

A Miguel Cabrera Triple Crown drawstring backpack and other items geared for young fans were taken in nearby West Bloomfield, police said.

Professional baseball is here, but one young Bloomfield-area fan will have to start the season without their Detroit Tigers Kids Club activity and souvenir kit after the items were stolen from a porch over the weekend.

Officers with the West Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to 4000 block of Thorntree Drive Saturday afternoon for a mail tampering report and encountered the homeowner with a mailed package box. The resident said they joined the 2013 Detroit Tigers Kids Club, but several items, including an exclusive Cabrera drawstring backpack, were removed, reports said. The items were reportedly taken sometime that morning or early afternoon. No suspect information was available.

Mail thefts have been a problem in several Bloomfield Township neighborhoods over the past year. Officials with the Bloomfield Township Police Department recently warned residents not to use their home mailboxes at all for outgoing mail because of a rash of thefts in late December and January.
