A Michigan teen who sported a pink mohawk to support his cancer-stricken mother was banned from participating in a track meet.
Iron River, Mich. – A Michigan high school student sporting a mohawk to show support for his cancer-stricken mother was banned from participating in a track meet, Fox News reported.
Mike Barker, a junior at West Iron County High School, was barred from participating in a track meet Thursday because he did not meet the school's appearance requirements, Fox Reported.
Barker's mother has breast cancer and the hairstyle was meant as a tribute to her.
Fox published a statement from the school: "The athletic department is going to work with the student and parents to resolve this issue," the statement reads. "The athletic department has long supported breast cancer awareness by participating in numerous events..."
