West Bloomfield Township Doctor Pleads Guilty in Medicare Fraud Case
Judge delays plea until Wednesday to allow neurologist and pain management doctor, collector of rare coins, to vote in Tuesday's election.

(Posted Nov. 8, 2016) WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — A West Bloomfield Township neurologist accused of cheating Medicare out of $1.9 million and Blue Cross Blue Shield $1.2 million, pleaded guilty to felony charges of healthcare fraud and distribution of controlled substances Monday, The Detroit News reports. Dr. Gavin Awerbuch, 58, faces up to 30 years in prison on the charges. He will be sentenced Feb. 7, 2017.
