Which Mailbox Do You Use in Bloomfield?

As mail thefts persist in Bloomfield, we want to know where you go to send your bills and important mail.

With yet another warning from police officials about street-side mailbox thefts in several Bloomfield Township neighborhoods, we thought it would be important to identify some of the places residents use, or should use, to send outgoing bills and checks to avoid being a victim of fraud.

During the past week, the  Bloomfield Township Police Department investigated reports of stolen mail from outside homes on Brady, Courville, Birchland, Long Pointe, Robindale, Marlborough and N. Hammond Lake roads, reports said.

Previous incidents resulted in stolen outgoing checks written by a homeowner that are later altered and fraudulently cashed. Some cases also led to other types of fraud and identity theft.

So, if you can't feel safe using your own mailbox, where do you go?

The Bloomfield Hills Post Office at 2050 South Blvd.; the postal service center at 2211 S Telegraph Rd.; and the UPS Store at 6632 Telegraph Rd. are obvious choices. But there are several places where official U.S. Postal Service boxes with secure locks are available, such as outside the office center at 200 W. Long Lake Road.
