Woman Finds Burglar Inside Vehicle at Bloomfield Twp. Panera

Vonzell Berry, of Detroit, faces one count of breaking and entering a vehicle in the Panera Bread parking lot.

A customer at the Panera Bread found a man in the backseat of her vehicle when she returned to it Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers with the Bloomfield Township Police Department responded to a larceny from auto complaint and encountered the victim who said she got into her vehicle in the parking lot and immediately smelled cigarette smoke, reports said. She turned around and saw the man sitting in her backseat. She quickly got out of the car and called authorities.

Police arrested Vonzell Berry, 66, without incident. He was charged Thursday in 48th District Court with one count of breaking and entering a vehicle and remained in the Oakland County Jail on $10,000 bond, records show. Berry told them that he was sleeping behind a dumpster nearby and decided to enter the car and sleep there because he was cold, reports said. He had credit cards and change from a purse left inside the vehicle in his possession.
