“We began gearing up for the transition to semesters about two years ago,” said Wen Hemingway, MBA, CTP, Baker College of Flint president. “A massive amount of time and energy has gone into revamping our processes and curriculum to fit the semester schedule. The team at Baker College has worked diligently to ensure a seamless transition for students.”
The new academic calendar offers two 16-week semesters and a 12-week summer session, versus four quarters.

Hemingway noted some of the advantages of a semester schedule.
“Semesters line up more closely with most high school calendars making dual enrollment and early/middle college easier to coordinate,” she said. “An earlier start in the fall also means an earlier graduation in the spring, allowing graduates to enter the job market sooner. And, because most colleges are on a semester schedule, it will be easier to transfer to and from Baker College and for calculating the transferring academic credits.”
Additionally she noted internships, a requirement of most Baker College programs, can be longer on a semester schedule.
