Brighton High girls' volleyball hope to make run in playoffs
High hopes for this year's girls volleyball team.

This year’s volleyball team did exponentially better than previous years. Coach Scott Pitcher helped the team make it to district finals, compared to losing first round. Varsity finished with an impressive record of 35-10-5 and ranked 18th in the state of Michigan.
“This year’s new coaching staff helped the team grow better physically and mentally. He was really tough on us and improved the team as a whole. We played a lot better with a noticable difference to team chemistry,” senior Annalise Berry said.
Berry and junior Celia Cullen were the two captains this year, leading the team and keeping them on track. This year’s preseason had more workouts and off season events. The girls implied it took a lot more will power to keep up with everything and in the end paid off.
“There were 13 girls on the team, each of them well rounded and able to accomplish their part. Watching the team this year compared to the last few years had a drastic difference. They played better collectively and everything looked natural with few mistakes,” senior Payton Cole said.
Six of the team member were seniors that led the team to great success: Hannah Bedner, Jessica Rickard, Alexa Bowles, Annalise Berry, Madison Opre, and Shantellie Hickinson. After watching the team it was visible that they stepped up and took the senior role. They had good communication on the court and did everything they could for the team.
“I’m proud of the entire team. We made it to district finals and ended my high school volleyball career on a good note. I have high hopes for the team next year and believe they will be strong,” senior Madison Opre said.
Next year is looking promising with a team led by Cullen is commited to Michigan State University. The team will be returning with the passion to win districts and keep the uphill climb.
