The robotics team students began designing and building the robot at the the build sessions that started on January 7th.
This years FIRST Robotics competition has a theme of 1980’s and 1990’s 8 bit retro video games Such as the original Mario Brothers games.Last year’s challenge was First Steamworks the robot was required to prepare an “airship” for a race. The robots had to collect fuel cells and return them to the ship and also collect gears to bring back to the airship at the end the robots had to climb the airship. The Brighton robotics team ranked 16th out of 40 in the Southfield qualification round competitions and in the Howell district competition the Techno Dogs ranked 26th out of 39.In the team took the new name the TechnoDogs.2016 competition was First Stronghold, The robots had to cross over many obstacles and shoot objects into the other teams territory and take other the territory in this competition Brighton robotics team made it to the Howell quarter finals and at the Kettering University competition the TechnoDogs won the Industrial Safety award.
Students that want to join the TechnoDogs team can go to any of the build sessions that are in the autolab every Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
“The TechnoDogs have a brand new website which is a wonderful place to find out any information about the TechnoDogs” Coach Rocky Roberts said.
The website www.TechnoDogs.org was created to find out about the teams history, upcoming dates, what the team is all about, team sponsors, people to contact such as coaches and team captains, And resources about the FIRST robotics competition.
All the robotics team members said they loved robotics and it was very fun.” I like robotics because it's fun to do dome problem solving to design the robot to do the tasks and building the robot after school with the team” Zoey Townsend said.Robotics is a great opportunity for students who are interested in science and technology along with students who like competition.
