Chelsea Experiences Brief Prison Break
Boot Camp Inmate Recaptured By State Police Near Chelsea

The Special Alternative Incarceration facility just north of Chelsea had a prison break over the weekend, according to MLive and the the Michigan Department of Corrections. Matthew Aires Genther, 37, made his escape around 3 p.m., climbing a fence around the 18901 Waterloo Road boot-camp facility. Genther, who was sentenced to 90 days in the boot camp program after violating probation for a meth conviction, was discovered in an unoccupied house just under two hours later by Michigan State Police.
The State Police issued a statement saying Genther had "what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds.” He was taken to a local hospital for treatment after his capture, and officials expect him to require several days of treatment.
