Chelsea High School Bowling Team HELP FUND THE FUN

Where High School Sports Team Training and Competition Are Disguised as Fun.

When Ed Greenleaf, III, owner of Chelsea Lanes, was asked to establish a High School bowling program 14 years ago, he jumped at the chance to combine his passion of the sport with his lifelong dream of working with kids. A 1994 Chelsea High School graduate and a Chelsea Bulldog football player, Ed continued his football career at Hope College where he was pursuing a degree in Business Administration. During his freshman year of college football, Ed suffered a career ending injury that changed his plan of playing football, to that of coaching. Upon graduation, he continued to coach Football and Baseball. When provided with the opportunity to establish a bowling program at Chelsea High School, Ed's passions came together. "I grew up in my parent's bowling alley and began bowling at the age of 2. "

When asked about the positive aspects of his 14 years as the Bowling Team’s Coach, Ed quickly responded, "I love working with the kids!" "There is a great deal of satisfaction watching these kids grow in the sport, and the lifelong friendships that have developed throughout the years."

When asked about the struggles of the High School Bowling Program, Coach Ed stated, "It's the continual need for funding. As a Club Sport, the bowling program is self-funded. We do not receive financial support from the school district. Even bus transportation to and from away games and tournaments are paid for by the team.”

"Every year, we work with the kids on establishing goals in and outside of bowling. As a young team, we have an opportunity to build a strong Championship team for both the Boys and Girls Teams. We have a great Assistant Coach, Cameron Voss, who is also a Championship bowler. Cam's dad is PBA Hall of Famer, Brian Voss. This year, Brian Voss was a guest Coach and the Team loved the opportunity to work with one of the greatest bowlers of all time! Our goal is to provide a place for all kids to participate in an athletic program regardless of skill level. Bowling is for everyone and can be a lifetime sport.”

The sport of Bowling is gaining in popularity throughout the Country. Chelsea High School has had a Bowling Team for the past 14 years and the program continues to grow due to the following factors:
