Chelsea Public Schools Closed Friday, Evening Activities Canceled

With up to eleven inches of snow expected, Chelsea Public Schools announced Friday's closing Thursday evening.

With a winter storm on the way and meteorologists predicting snowfall of 9 to 11 inches across the area, nearly every school in Metro Detroit and still more in Washtenaw and Macomb counties announced Thursday that Friday classes would be canceled. By midnight, Click on Detroit’s school closings page listed over 700 area schools that had announced weather-related closures for Friday. With so much snow predicted for the morning, Chelsea Public Schools joined this large group of schools and announced the cancellation of its Friday classes.

According to the schools' webpage, "Chelsea School District will be closed, Friday, February 9th, due to the approaching winter storm and anticipated hazardous road conditions." Whenever Chelsea Public Schools cancels classes, the district’s policy is that early childhood programs, all after-school field trips and after-school student activities, student-based events sponsored by the district or its schools and any outside events that have permits to use the schools’ facilities are all also canceled. This includes Gretchen’s House before- and after-school childcare, athletic events and community education and adult education events and classes.

For parents wondering what Monday will bring, the Chelsea Public Schools' website will have any announcements, and the district also alerts parents via automated texts, emails and phone calls.
