Chelsea School District Hosts Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Sunday
Chelsea High Musicians Complete Concert Bill

Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m., The Chelsea School District will host performances by the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (A2SO) and two Chelsea High School groups: the Chelsea Symphony Orchestra and the Chelsea Concert Orchestra. The classical music triple bill takes place in the Chelsea High auditorium. According to Chelsea Update, the Chelsea Concert Orchestra will begin with Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance No. 8 and Verdi’s Anvil Chorus, followed by the Chelsea Symphony Orchestra with Handel’s Royal Fireworks Music and the fourth movement of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8.
After the intermission, the A2SO, directed by Maestro Arie Lipsky, will offer selections from West Side Story, the finale of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto and “Can-Can” from Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach. The Bruch concerto will feature a solo performance by internationally prominent violinist Aaron Berofsky.
“It is amazing to have Aaron Berofsky, a world-class violinist, perform at CHS,” Chelsea High School orchestra director Jed Fritzemeier told Chelsea Update.

The musicians from CHS’ band and orchestra program were mentored by Ann Arbor Symphony members and attended two clinics offered by Maestro Lipsky, who will conduct both high school ensembles Sunday. The concert takes place at Chelsea High School Auditorium, 740 North Freer Road, Chelsea. Tickets are $12 for adults, or $8 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door, or in advance at Chelsea Pharmacy, 1125 South Main St.
