Money might not buy happiness — and it doesn't in Michigan, the 10th unhappiest place in America, according to WalletHub.

The Mitten State is the 10th saddest state in America, according to a recent analysis by WalletHub, which compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key metrics measuring everything from emotional health to income levels to sports participation rates.

Money may not buy happiness, but the state ranked 50th income growth rate. Only Nevada ranked lower.Michiganders also aren’t getting enough sleep, ranking 44th. The state’s best score was in its volunteer rate, so there’s that.

Here’s the low-down on happiness — or as the case may be, unhappiness — according to WalletHub:

Happiness in Michigan (1=Best; 25=Avg.)

  • 38th – Hedonometer (happiness) score
  • 39th – Depression rate
  • 44th – Adequate-sleep rate
  • 19th – Suicide rate
  • 36th – Long-term inemployment rate
  • 37th – Obesity rate
  • 19th – Volunteerism rate
  • 25th – Divorce rate
  • 31st – Safety ranking
  • 50th – Income growth rate

Michigan isn’t as sad as some other places in the country. Joining Michigan at the bottom are Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama and West Virginia.

Utah is the happiest state, followed by Minnesota, Hawaii, Colorado, North Dakota, Nebraska, Washington, Iowa, Massachusetts and Wyoming.
