Obama has frequently spoken about the resurgence of the auto industry in Michigan following federal bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler early in his presidency. When he spoke at Macomb College in 2009, he said that even with the government restructuring, some auto jobs would disappear as “casualties of a changing economy,” the Free Press said.

Earlier this year when he visited Wayne, he noted 500,000 jobs had been created since the recession, but employment in the auto industry hasn’t returned to pre-recession levels.

His remarks Wednesday are expected to center on the link between investments in improving worker skills and growing the national economy.
