Purple Rose Theatre Holds Auditions For New Season

Jeff Daniels' Chelsea theater will hold auditions for the 2018-19 season in April.

CHELSEA, Mich. — The Purple Rose Theatre Company announced auditions for the 2018-19 season Monday, putting out a call fro Quity and non-Equity actors, especially those over 18, according to a release. Anyone who wants to audition will need to make an appointment by calling the Purple Rose at (734) 433-7782.

The auditions will consist of a one-minute contemporary comedic monologue. Actors should also bring current headshots and resumes. For the lucky few who make it past the first round, the theater will hold callbacks for specific parts. The auditions will sake place at The Purple Rose Theatre, 137 Park Street, Chelsea.

Plays tentatively scheduled for 2018-19 include a new play by Jeff Daniels with the working title “Housewives,” and Arthur Miller’s “All My Sons.” The theater will also feature the world premieres for two new plays: “Welcome to Paradise,” by Julie Marino and “Never, Not Once,” by Carey Crim. The current Equity salary for actors in Purple Rose productions is $479 per week.

Founded in 1991, The Purple Rose Theater is actor Jeff Daniels’ incubator for new plays and offers an apprenticeship program, classes, and other events. The theater also commissions new plays by upcoming playwrights and operates as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
