2011 Flashback: Monster Storm Barrels Through Clawson

One neighborhood was a disaster zone after the storm in late August.

In a moment of adversity, Clawsonites stick together. The powerful storm that swept through Clawson on Aug. 20 showed many residents they could .

On the day of the annual Woodward Dream Cruise, a heavy storm barreled through Clawson leaving the south side of the city with several fallen trees and branches, downed power lines, snapped electric poles and thousands of people without power.

Some residents had severe damage to their homes and yards during the storm, and it took more than a week for Department of Public Works crews to clean the neighborhood up. Thankfully, no one was reported hurt. Residents and city officials have said it was the worst storm damage Clawson has ever seen.

But on the night of the storm and the day after, residents were spotted helping neighbors clean up their yards and cutting down branches strewn across the yards.

"People that I didn't even know came to help," said Jennifer Perkins, who lives in the south Clawson neighborhood hit hard by the storm.

Many residents spent the last part of the year working to get their homes back to normal.

On the Clawson Patch Facebook page, Sharisse Myren wrote that for Christmas, she wanted "her house to be fixed from the August (20) storm...almost done!"
