
Mary Kathryn Kramer was born on December 15, 1941 in Detroit, to Aloysious and Beatrice (Walsh) Kramer. She died suddenly on June 24, 2012 in Greenville, North Carolina.
Mary Kathryn graduated from Presentation Grade School and Immaculata High School, both in Detroit. She then entered the IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) Religious order of nuns and was a member for 14 years. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Marygrove College (Detroit) in 1965, and she went on to obtain a Master's Degree from Marquette University (Milwaukee) in 1972, and a Master of Social Work Degree from Wayne State University in 1979.
Mary Kathryn taught at St. Columban Elementary School (Birmingham) and was a Social Worker for several agencies. She worked with Catholic Social Services-Macomb County, Havenwyck Hospital (Auburn Hills), Eastwood Clinic (Eastpointe), and North Point Mental Health Associates of Sterling Heights.
She was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Academy of Certified Social
An active volunteer, Mary Kathryn worked at William Beaumont Hospital, the Michigan Humane Society, PBS Telethons, and the Detroit Zoo. She was an avid environmentalist and reader. She loved to travel, really enjoyed golf, and was a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan.
Mary Kathryn served in the U.S. Naval Reserve at the Great Lakes Naval Station.
She is survived by her sister, Sherrill Cross (Tom), her brothers, John Kramer (Joan) and James Kramer, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 1, 2012, from 2-8 at A. J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak.
The Funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday, July 2 -10:00 AM at St. Columban Catholic Church, 775 Melton Street, Birmingham, with Rev. Donald Demmer officiating. Visitation at church begins Monday at 9:30 AM.
