Clawson to Host Town Hall Meetings About Millage Proposal

Learn more about the tax increase plan that will appear on the Feb. 28 ballot; voter registration deadline approaching.

Residents with questions or concerns about will have a chance to speak out at two town hall meetings at .

The first meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday while another meeting is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 22.

The city of Clawson will ask voters to approve 4.2 mills during the Feb. 28 election to maintain city services — 1.9 mills are a renewal of the Headlee Override from 2003 while the actual tax increase is 2.3 mills. A tax increase would offset a budget deficit resulting from declining property values.

The city levies about 12.7 mills for general operating services and the tax increase would provide the additional $700,000 the city needs to maintain services such as the and Public Works.

City Manager Mark Pollock will be on hand to answer questions from residents about the millage. "Our hope is that people who have legitimate questions ... things they don’t understand, that we can answer those," Pollock said.

Deadline to register to vote

The last day to register to vote in the February election is Jan. 30. You can register at the Clawson or at any local Secretary of State office.
