Detroit Country Day School Presents "The Drowsy Chaperone"
Talented Upper School students bring life to production of the award-winning Broadway musical

Talented student actors and musicians at Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) are putting their own spin on the five-time Tony award-winning Broadway musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” The musical will debut at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 8, and will run March 8, 9, 15 and 16, with Sunday performances on March 10 and 17 at 2 p.m.
The original production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” is an award-winning Broadway musical with a light-hearted storyline, which takes place in the Jazz Age. It follows a slew of characters including two lovers on their wedding day, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and of course, an intoxicated chaperone. The masterful meta-musical pokes fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical genre and has been recreated at schools and theatre companies across the country.
“We’re thrilled to be putting on a production of ‘The Drowsy Chaperone.’ We hope the performance will capture the hearts of the audience and take them on an emotional, humorous theatrical journey,” said Phill Harmer, director of the DCDS production. “Our talented group of students have been working tirelessly to prepare for this performance and have truly captured the essence of their respective characters along with the era in which they live. This performance is one you will not want to miss.”
