Village Shoe Inn Returns to Clawson

After a two-month delay, Village Shoe Inn on 14 Mile Road has opened its doors to the public offering a vibrant selection of seasonal women's shoes. 

The shoe store opened for the first day on Saturday and already customers from all over the area are stopping in, store employees say. 

The store originally had , but owners decided to wait until more spring shoes were available. Store manager Jackie Paso said if the store opened in December, there would have been mostly fall shoes and sale boots.

"I think it's more exciting when spring stuff comes in," Paso said. "Every single thing is new."

The Village Shoe Inn sells a large selection of dress shoes and bridal shoes by top designers, including Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson and BCBG. Paso said shoe prices range from $19 up to more than $100. Shoes are discounted 25 percent off retail value, she said. 

The Village Shoe Inn has been serving the Metro Detroit area since 1969 and has stores in Rochester, Farmington and Eastpointe.

This isn't the first time the Village Shoe Inn has been in the Clawson community. The store operated out of the 14 Mile building from 1980 through 2002, when the owners leased it to Republic Bank. When the bank lease ended this year, co-owner Chuck Thibault said they decided to move the shoe store back in.

Thibault said he was excited to finally open the store.

"We wanted to wait until we had an impressive selection of shoes," Thibault said. "I love the area. It's just a wonderful feeling."

Kathy Cope, of Clawson, said she used to shop at Village Shoe Inn when it was formerly in town and was pleased with its return.

"I'm happy," Cope said on Monday, adding that she enjoys the friendliness of the staff.

Village Shoe Inn will host a grand opening celebration at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The store is located at 250 E. 14 Mile Rd. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Wednesday; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday; noon-5 p.m. Sunday.
