Guardian Angels Helps the Homeless
Guardian Angels students assembly 160 "Blessing Bags" for the homeless in our community.
Clawon, MI - February 4, 2016: As part of our Catholic School Week activities, the students of Guardian Angels Catholic School in Clawson, Michigan worked together to assemble 160 “Blessing Bags” for the homeless in the community. A blessing bag is a bag filled with essential personal items and distributed to the homeless either through shelters or to those we encounter at intersections seeking assistance. Each one gallon Blessing Bag that the students put together contained a bottled water, granola bars, candies, hand sanitizer, a pair of socks, lip balm, tissue, a tooth brush, and tooth paste. All students in grades K-8 participated by bringing in the item that was assigned to their grade level and also by assembling the bags.
Fifty bags were donated immediately to the day time shelter for the homeless at Starr Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak. Another 40 were distributed to the homeless in Detroit by the parishioners of the Catholic Church of St. Moses the Black. The remaining bags will be distributed throughout the South Oakland County, Pontiac and Detroit communities by Guardian Angels Catholic Community.
