Investigators: Bloomfield Hills, Warren Police Fired Shots in Killing of Fugitive
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is overseeing the investigation of a high-speed chase that ended in a crash and fatal shooting.

A fugitive was killed in a police chase through two counties that ended in a crash and shooting late Wednesday night in Bloomfield Hills.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing the fatal shooting of parolee Deviere Ernel Ransom, 24, of Detroit, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Warren police began pursuing the parolee shortly before midnight after he reportedly sawed off an electronic monitor and made threats with a firearm. Ransom reportedly fired shots at a police officer who joined the pursuit in Troy, the Detroit Free Press and WWJ/CBS Detroit report.

Bloomfield Hills police joined the pursuit after Ransom’s vehicle collided with another car at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Square lake. Ransom allegedly jumped from the car, ran to an alley behind a CVS drug store and pulled a handgun on officers approached him.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Office investigators said multiple shots were fired by both Bloomfield Hills and Warren police officers. The two suburban police departments reportedly asked the sheriff’s office to take control of the investigation into the shooting.

Investigators were at the shooting scene all night, Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe told the Free Press.
Investigators are reviewing dashcam video from patrol cars, checking with businesses near the shooting scene for surveillance video, and interviewing witnesses, including the motorist whose vehicle was struck by Ransom’s.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do,” McCabe said.
Ransom was paroled from prison in December 2013 after serving time on a conviction of assault by strangulation or suffocation, according to the report.
The chase began at 12 Mile and Mound roads in Warren.
Autopsy reports weren’t immediately available.
