It's All About Ribs at Independence Day Weekend Festival

OK, it's about the music, too – and the pig races, the monster truck rides, the kids' zone, craft beer and Fourth of July fun.

Are you licking your fingers in anticipation?

The big three-day Royal Oak Rib Fest takes place over the Independence Day weekend, with the fun starting Friday, July 3, and continuing through Sunday, July 7, at the Royal Oak Farmers Market. It’s free, with something for all ages.

Ribs – and a cook-off to determine whose rubs and sauces are the best – are the main attraction, but the festival also features music on multiple stages, monster truck rides, craft beer, a pig race, a kids’ zone and other entertainment.

Rib Fest is sponsored by Metro Times Detroit and Ultimate Fun Productions.

The two sponsors have “proven over and over again that they understand what people like to do and how to have fun,” Judy Davids, Royal Oak community engagement specialist, said in a story on the Royal Oak Rib Fest Facebook page.
