Dozens of supporters gathered at Thursday evening to celebrate the kick off party for AIDS Walk Detroit.

AIDS Walk Detroit raises money every year to help support AIDS/HIV prevention programs throughout southeast Michigan. Since it was developed in 1991, AIDS Walk Detroit has raised more than $3.5 million.

Cameron said Leon & Lulu owner Mary Liz Curtin is a board member for AIDS Walk Detroit and invited the group to host its kick off celebration at the store.

Volunteer Scott Cook, of Sterling Heights, was greeting attendees at Thursday's event.

"I think it's a wonderful event to raise awareness," Cook said. "And I think it's at a great location ... beautiful event."

AIDS Walk Detroit will host several other events leading up to the AIDS Walk such as a bowling event and a silent auction.
