Motown Museum for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Museum to offer free admission to youth 17 and under, when accompanied by a paid adult
Motown Museum will be open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day—Monday, January 21—and will offer free admission to youth 17 and under, when accompanied by a paid adult. Special performances and giveaways will be hosted throughout the day, as well.
As part of the celebration, visitors will watch a special video message from Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. about the connection between Motown and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They will also witness performances of original pieces by winners of the Motown MIC: The Spoken Word poetry competition in tribute to Dr. King. They will learn the history of Motown’s Black Forum Label, which released recordings by Dr. King and other influential orators. During each tour, The Motown Museum will raffle off a free CD of Martin Luther King Jr.’s most well-known speeches, courtesy of Comcast and Buddy’s Pizza (tours start at 10 a.m. and are hosted every half hour throughout the day). Patrons will also receive 50% off the Martin Luther King Jr. CD for the day with a purchase of equal or greater value in the Museum Store.
