Poll: Will You Support a Millage Increase?

Tell us how you plan to vote on the Headlee Override millage in the February election.

Last week we reported on the in the Feb. 28 election. City Manager Mark Pollock said the millage increase will help offset a budget deficit that has resulted from declining property values.

The city levies about 12.7 mills for general operating services and the tax increase would provide the additional $700,000 it needs to maintain city jobs and services.

For some residents and city leaders a tax increase is a good solution because the city can continue to run its own police department and offer leaf pick-up, snow removal and other valuable services. However, others believe higher taxes will be hard a pill to swallow given the economic recession.

If the tax is levied, the average homeowner will pay around $724 in 2012, based on the Clawson average taxable property value of $48,300. The impact on most property owners from 2011 to 2012 taxes should be less than a $90 increase, Pollock said.

The Clawson Patch would like to gauge the number of readers who support, are against or are still undecided on how they will vote in February.
