UPDATED: Police Report Accidents; Schools Closed; Evening Events Canceled

With roads still hazardous, students get a second snow day and police respond to accidents.

Freezing temperatures and hazardous road conditions resulted in a second snow day for Clawson schools, and as of Tuesday morning, police said they had responded to seven weather-related accidents since Monday.

Clawson schools also canceled all Tuesday evening activities, including sports practices and the holiday choir concert.

Police said they have received no reports of shoveling deaths, and there were no major injuries reported in the accidents they responded to.

Officials from the Clawson Department of Public Works said they salted the main roads Sunday and Monday but did not plan to continue salting Tuesday.

"Salt is no longer effective when you get below 19 degrees," said Public Works Director Harry Drinkwine. The major roads in Clawson "are in pretty good shape," he added.

The department expected trash pick-up to follow its regular schedule Wednesday.

Tuesday's high temperatures were expected to reach about 22 degrees and fall to 13 degrees Tuesday night..
