3 Macomb County Schools Report New Coronavirus Outbreaks: State

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Three schools in Macomb County have reported new outbreaks of the coronavirus, according to state health officials.

Mound Park Elementary in Warren had two staff members test positive for the coronavirus. Tenniswood Elementary in Clinton Township reported one student and one member of its staff had tested positive for the virus. Four people at Lakeshore High School in St. Clair Shores also tested positive for the coronavirus.

In all, 45 new outbreaks of the coronavirus were reported in Michigan schools Monday.

Eight schools in Macomb County also remain listed as sites on ongoing coronavirus outbreaks, according to the state.

Pinewood Elementary School in Warren previously reported three people had tested positive for the virus.

Sugarbush Elementary in Chesterfield reported three people had tested positive for the coronavirus.

Iroquois Middle School in Macomb said two students previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

In Mount Clemens, two people at Mount Clemens Middle School previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

Two staff members at Anchor Bay High School in Ira previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

Six students at Dakota High School in Macomb previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

Two students at Lakeview High School in St. Clair Shores previously tested positive for the coronavirus.

It's important to note that a coronavirus outbreak is different than a case. A COVID-19 outbreak is defined as two or more cases with a link by place and time indicating a shared exposure outside of a household.

The information provided by the state on Monday includes K-12, college and university school name, address, number of cases and if the cases involved staff, students or both. Students or staff exposed to COVID-19 outside the school building and are not thought to have spread the virus in the school due to quarantine or self-isolation are not included in the data.

Many factors, including the lack of ability to conduct effective contact tracing in certain settings, may result in underreporting of outbreaks, MDHHS said. This information does not provide a complete picture of school outbreaks in Michigan and the absence of identified outbreaks in a school does not mean it is not experiencing an outbreak.
