Ambulance Joyride Lands Macomb County Man In Jail

An ambulance was allegedly stolen from a Mt. Clemens Hospital. Deputies were able stop the suspect after a short chase (with video).

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI — A short-lived joy ride with an ambulance could land a 21-year-old Macomb County man in jail for years. The man took a MedStar ambulance from Henry Ford Hospital in Mt. Clemens at about 6:30 on Saturday night, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were quickly alerted and chased the 21-year-old through Mt. Clemens on southbound Groesbeck Highway. Macomb County Sheriff Sgt. Renee Yax said the chase went passed Cass Avenue, but ended before 16 Mile Road when the ambulance veered from the road and got stuck in a grassy area.

“We picked it up almost instantaneously,” Yax said. “This was not a high-speed chase. It was very brief.”

He will be arraigned Tuesday at the 41-B District Court in Clinton Township.
