Clinton Township Man Accused of Shooting Van, Street Sign

A 34-year-old Clinton Township man was arraigned Wednesday on multiple felony charges for allegedly shooting up a van and a street sign in Mount Clemens. 

Joseph Devoy was arrested around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday after Macomb County Sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance complaint on New Street. Witnesses reported seeing a man walking down the street and firing his gun, according to Lt. John Michalke. 

When approached by deputies, Devoy ran across yards and jumped fences during a foot chase, ending with him being Tasered and arrested, police said.

A K-9 unit found a .380 caliber Ruger handgun on the front lawn of a home on Hubbard Street. Deputies located three bullet holes in a van and another bullet hole in a street sign, along with the spent cartridges, Michalke said.

The handgun was reported stolen in June to Michigan State Police, investigators said.

Devoy faces felony charges of receiving and concealing firearms; firearms possession by a felon; assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer causing injury and a misdemeanor charge of reckless use of a firearm. He posted a $10,000 cash/surety bond for release. 

Police said there is no known motive for his alleged actions.
