Clinton Township Opens Floor for Residents to Weigh in on $14 Million Proposed Budget

A public hearing will be held during the March 25 Clinton Township board meeting to give residents a chance to share questions or concerns regarding the proposed township budget for fiscal year 2013-14.

The budget proposed for 2013-14 will be tight, but should keep Clinton Township's general fund in the black for another year.

Prepared by the finance department, the proposed budget estimates Clinton Township will take in just under $15.7 million in revenue during fiscal year 2013-14. With that number in mind, the township is looking to stay under budget and spend just $14.7 million from its general fund.

While the general fund budget is expected to balance, the police and fire funds may have to deficit spend.

For fiscal year 2013-14, the police fund is projected to spend $17.4 million, but take in only $16.5 million in revenue. The situation is similar for the fire fund, which expects to spend $13.4 million, but receive only $12 million in revenue.

These revenue losses are largely attributed to reduced property values.
