Deputy Attacked By Multiple Suspects

A Macomb County Sheriff's Deputy was attacked trying to arrest a man after a traffic stop. The extent of the deputy's injuries are unknown.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A sheriff’s deputy was attacked and four people arrested after a traffic stop Wednesday evening in Mt. Clemens. Details of the deputy’s injuries were not released by the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy stopped a Chevy Cobalt after seeing what appeared to be a narcotic-related item tossed out of the car, reports said. A 22-year-old passenger in the Cobalt, identified as Jonathan Hadley, ran away despite the deputy’s orders to stop.

The deputy was able to stop Hadley near a home in the North Walnut and Jones Street area of Mt. Clemens. He struggled against the deputy, who was trying to handcuff him, reports said.

The driver of the Cobalt, Yahaira Elisea-Moreno, 19, ran up to the men as they struggled and attacked the deputy, reports said. A third man, Jordan Herrod, 20, came out of a nearby home and joined in the fracas, also attacking the deputy, according to reports.

Herrod allegedly struck the deputy and pushed him into some shrubbery adjacent to the home. Reports said Herrod then got on top of the deputy and struck him.

A second deputy arrived moments later and several other people came out from the house and began yelling obscenities at the deputies. A deputy finally tasered Herrod and gained control of him, reports said.

Additional deputies then arrived and helped restore order. Hadley, Elisea-Moreno, and Herrod were taken into custody and placed into patrol vehicles, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Yet another suspect, Diamond Smith, 22, attempted to remove items from the Cobalt while the other three were being arrested. She was ordered to place the items on the ground and step away from the vehicle. Reports said she refused and was also arrested.
