MACOMB COUNTY, MI — A Detroit man who was reported missing Sunday has been accused of briefly kidnapping a 6-year-old boy the same day in Mt. Clemons, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

Lu'Zjaie Captain, 30, is charged with kidnapping/child enticement and one count of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police causing injury after he grabbed a child and walked away with him, telling the boy's babysitter he was taking him "to get candy," police said.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said the babysitter did an excellent job providing a description of Captain and said she "stayed calm in a very traumatic situation."

"This helped deputies to locate the suspect quickly," Wickersham said. "It is appalling to think what may have become had deputies not taken this man into custody."

According to the sheriff's office, Captain approached a 19-year-old woman who was babysitting her neighbor's children and began flirting with her. Captain, according to police, began squirting the children with water bottles. When the babysitter told Captain to leave the children alone, he left but returned later with juice, police said.

Captain was once again told to leave by the babysitter, police said. This time, Captain grabbed one of the children by the arm and began to walk away with him, police said. According to police, Captain told the babysitter he was taking the boy to get candy. When she told Captain to let the boy go or she would call police, Captain let go of the boy and walked away, police said. The child was uninjured, police said.

The babysitter called the child's mother and police, who found Captain in a parking lot on Groesbeck and North Rose, police said. Police found Captain outside a vehicle with the hood up, according to police. When police confronted Captain, he quickly shut the hood, hitting his head, before entering the vehicle, police said.

Police said Captain appeared to be unconscious and they forced their way into the vehicle, waking him up. One of the deputies was cut while trying to enter the vehicle, police said.

According to police, Captain is the subject of a December 2019 missing person report out of Detroit. He was reported missing again on Sunday on the Detroit Police Department's Facebook page.

Captain is currently on parole for resisting and obstructing police and has a prior conviction of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, police said.
