Macomb County Extends Deadline For Free Shipt Memberships

Macomb County residents over the age of 60 can now apply for the program through Dec. 15.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Macomb County is extending the deadline for county seniors to apply for free grocery delivery to their home.

Macomb County residents over the age of 60 can now apply for the program, which was funded with federal CARES Act dollars, through Dec. 15.

“We would like to extend the offer to ensure we reach as many seniors in Macomb County as possible,” Macomb County Office of Senior Services Director Sheila Coté said. “This is a great opportunity to reduce exposure risk of our seniors by having groceries and other essential items delivered to their home.”

Macomb County said its program was the first-of-its-kind between a senior services agency and Shipt, a service that provides grocery delivery from local stores. Similar partnerships have since been launched in Oakland County.

A member can order groceries from a phone or computer and a shopper will pick up items and deliver them to the door. If a senior does not have access to a computer, friends or family members can assist in enrolling, ordering and scheduling delivery dates/times. Items ordered will be charged to the member’s credit card. The delivery is free on all orders over $35.
