Macomb County 'Macomb Is Open' Contest Supports Local Businesses

Twenty patrons will receive $50 gift cards and 20 businesses will receive $1,000 grants through the program.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — Local eateries and patrons in Macomb County can win up to $21,000 as part of the county's new Macomb Is Open contest.

Permitted to stay open under the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order, many Macomb County food and beverage establishments have been offering curbside pick-up or delivery while working with minimal staffing.

To help those businesses, Macomb County has joined forces with several other local groups such as the Macomb County Chamber, the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber, the Anchor Bay Chamber, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber, the Greater Romeo Washington Chamber and the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, to launch the Macomb is Open contest.

“This contest is patterned after our very popular ‘Shop Local Macomb’ holiday campaign,” said Vicky Rad, director of Macomb County’s Department of Planning & Economic Development. “Our hope is that it creates a greater level of support for our local restaurants while protecting local jobs.”

Here is how the contest works: anyone interested in participating can stop by any independently owned and operated food or beverage establishment in Macomb County, take a photo, share it on social media with the hashtag #MacombisOpen and submit the photo for a chance to win a $50 gift card to that establishment and a $1,000 grant for the named business.
