Macomb County, Meijer Partner To Vaccinate Senior Citizens

Multiple vaccine clinics will be held for pre-registered patients 65 and older, officials said Thursday.

MACOMB COUNTY, MI — The Macomb County Health Department is partnering with Meijer to begin administering the COVID-19 vaccine to individuals aged 65 and older.

Those who wish to receive a vaccine at one of two unnamed locations in Macomb County are required to pre-register through the retailer’s text-based registration process.

“Our concern is for the most vulnerable populations based on national and state data, so senior citizens are a top priority,” Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel said Thursday. “We are allocating some of our vaccine allotment, in partnership with Meijer, to give better access to seniors that want to be vaccinated.”

“I’m extremely proud of the amazing work our store and pharmacy teams have done to create a quick and efficient process for our vaccine clinics,” said Jason Beauch, Meijer Vice President of Pharmacy. “The importance of these clinics is not lost on our team members and patients – it’s a very emotional experience for everyone involved.”

The vaccine clinics conducted by Meijer are not open to walk-ups. People interested in being vaccinated through a Meijer clinic are required to be registered through the retailer’s online system in order to be scheduled for a vaccine. To register, patients can text COVID to 75049, go online or simply visit their local pharmacy and ask to register.

Those registered through Meijer will be notified when a vaccine dose is available for them and offered an appointment. They can accept the appointment, decline the appointment and request another, or if they have already received their vaccine, they can ask to be removed from the list, officials said.

In an email, Meijer spokesperson Frank Guglielmi said the retailer is not releasing the location of its clinics but is expected to begin reaching out to registered individuals as early as next week with an appointment time and location.
